After a record breaking opening weekend at the box office Spiderman Brand New Day once again finds itself in competition with Avengers Endgame for a box office record. Brand New Day came in a very close second for the biggest opening weekend of all time behind the Endgame. Now, after hitting a billion dollars in just six days it is the second fastest film to ever cross that milestone right behind Endgame which crossed a billion in just five days. Spidye blazed past Infinity Way which tiik eleven days to reach that goal.
The Success of Spiderman Brand New Day is impressive considering the hyperbole over the death of cinemas that has permeated the zietgiest over the last few years. Endgame hit these numbers in 2019, before the pandemic and the writers strike, arguably a more fravorable environment for that film to have been released. It’ll be interesting to see if this momentum carries over to
Avengers Doomsday when it releases in the fall. These box office numbers has to have critics reconsidering their position on super hero fatigue and the death of the MCU after several objectively weak installments.
