Just the idea of going to a screening of John Carpenter’s The Thing with the director in attendance as well as modern auteur Bong Joon Ho is a dream come true for cinephiles but the conversation between the two creators that followed the screening is nothing short of jaw dropping.

While commenting on Carpenter’s discography of film scores, Bong casually asked Carpenter if he would score an upcoming horror film he is directing. Carpenter immediately replies yes. Before Bong could even finish the question Carpenter declared, “Yes, I wanna do your score.” After a handshake between the two Bong assured the audience that this is “officially happening”.

Ironically the two were at a screening for the rare Carpenter film that the director didn’t actually score. Iconic composer Ennio Morricone scored The Thing. Carpenter did, however, write one of the most recognizable scores in cinematic history with the simple but effective soundtrack to Halloween. He most recently scored the trilogy of Halloween remakes as well as the Firestarter remake. It’s fairly understood that the only good thing about the Firestarter remake is the score from Carpenter.

Nothing is yet known about Bong Joon Ho’s horror film but this news is sure to have fans of both creators salivating.
