Warner Bros. has announced a new release date for its highly anticipated film MICKEY 17. The Robert Pattinson led sci-fi film, directed by Bong Joon-ho, has been rescheduled to April 18, 2025, shifting from its previous release slot of January 2025. This move comes nearly a year after the film’s original theatrical date of March 29, 2024. The new April slot positions Mickey 17 away from January, which is traditionally a less favorable period for major releases, and allows the film to open in IMAX, which could boost its audience appeal over the Easter holiday weekend. Lionsgate’s recent decision to move their upcoming Michael Jackson biopic from April 2025 to October 2025 prompted Warner Bros. to capitalize on the open holiday release slot. A Warner Bros. representative expressed excitement for Mickey 17‘s IMAX debut, stating they seized the April date as soon as it became available to better showcase Bong’s latest work.

“When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for Mikey 17. We’re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in Imax,” said a Warner Bros. spokesperson, “With January 31 now available with a full Imax footprint, we are also very happy to have Companion releasing on this new date.”
“It’s based on the novel Mickey 7, but we made it Mickey 17, Bong said at CinemaCon this past spring. “The number is the number of times he dies. I kill him 10 times more. It’s a story of a simple man. It’s a sci-fi movie. It’s hard to say sci-fi — it’s a human story.”
