Rumors have been floating across Hollywood that actor John Lithgow was in talks to take on the role of Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series set for HBO. In an interview today to promote his new project, The Rule of Jenny Penn, Lithgow revealed that he has been cast as the Hogwarts Headmaster, a role previously played by the late actors Michael Gambon and Richard Harris.
Not much else is known about the new series. It’s expected to premiere on HBO Max in late 2026 or early 2027. Filming is scheduled to begin in summer 2025 at Leavesden Studios, the same location used for the original movies.
